The Sound Of Music - Singapore 2017
[Media Invite]
The hills are alive with The Sound Of Music, so is the stage! One of the world's best loved musical has come to MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands!
This highly-acclaimed production comes from the home of West End musical theatre – the famous London Palladium - where the lavish and dazzling show celebrated a record-breaking 954 performances and was seen by over two million people. In Singapore, the show played to almost 70,000 people during its five-week season in July/August 2014. Three years on, it is back to this Little Red Dot again!
AJ is very familiar with the movie and the songs in it as he has watched it with us umpteen times. But, really, nothing beats watching it live on stage, seeing the acting and listening to the singing. The Sound Of Music brims over with some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical theatre stage, including My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev'ry Mountain, Edelweiss, The Lonely Goatherd, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, and of course the glorious title song The Sound of Music. Oh, all these lovely songs we can't help but sang along
To add beauty to the whole musical, there was live orchestra. Since AJ is into piano and is playing french horn in the youth orchestra, he was particularly attentive to the orchestra. Despite it being a small orchestra group (we estimated purely by the sound of the instruments), it was a lovely compliment to the musical drama on stage.
To make us prouder, eighteen of Singapore’s most able young actors and actresses play the coveted roles of six of the seven von Trapp children, with three children chosen to alternate each character. The children come from all corners of Singapore and will perform in rotation throughout the season as the small and cute Gretl, the brothers Friedrich and Kurt, as well as their sisters Marta, Brigitta, and Louisa.
The casting of the von Trapp children for the Singapore season of The Sound of Music are as follows:
Gretl : Tanya Chan, Emily Kitamura, Emily Riddle
Marta : Jane Callista Saweango, Haylie Erin Tan, Chloe Scheler
Brigitta : Sasha Suhandinata, Chloe Choo, LLaria Ghersi
Kurt : Max Makatsaria, Aidan Kelly, Alfie Hodgson
Louisa : Ishita Anand, Samantha Lee, Sophea Pennington
Friedrich: Louis Beatty, Mateo Fuentes, Ethan Dacaret
This iconic show touches the hearts of all ages and is not to be missed.

The Sound Of Music tells the uplifting true story of Maria, the fun-loving governess who changes the lives of the widowed Captain von Trapp and his seven children by re-introducing them to music, culminating in the family’s escape across the Austrian mountains as tensions rise prior to the outbreak of World War II.
The original 1959 Broadway production of The Sound Of Music won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and was Rodgers and Hammerstein's biggest success. The 1965 movie starring Julie Andrews as Maria won five Oscars, including Best Picture, and remains one of the most popular movies of all time.
