Traveling To Shanghai With Vivo V9

[Product Review]

We had the opportunity to review Vivo V9's photo quality when we took it to our Shanghai trip recently. The phone was mainly handled by AJ, so most of the photos were taken by him. He is the one most familiar with the features of the camera :D. Interesting to note, though Vivo is pretty new in the market, we did note that quite a good number of its supporters in Shanghai.

When it comes to Taking Objects, I find Vivo V9 pretty good. The camera is able to focus on the target and define the details really well. Check out the fur of the black dog, the grainy wooden ship, the clay jugs and the water flow.

As one could control the aperture of V9, one could control the amount of light passing into the lens. This feature gives you the depth of field on the effect of the photo that you would like it to turn out to be. We played around with this feature a lot.

The V9 uses 2 rear cameras – a 16MP main camera and a 5MP secondary camera – and is supported by an AI Bokeh algorithm. It is said that this algorithm can achieve amazing bokeh shots that rival DSLR camera results. I am not very convinced on this but it can be comparable to those more advanced Point-and-Shoot camera results

I do agree with most reviewers that V9’s world-leading 24MP front camera could turn our selfies into a work of art. The camera is able to provide adequate brightness, color vibrancy, clarity and dynamic range, even in the dimmest light to save us much time in editing our selfie photos. Check out our indoor selfie and outdoor selfie below:

As mentioned, we are only reviewing the camera aspect of Vivo V9 as we really like to see how the photos would turn out to be. In my opinion, Vivo V9 is a reasonable mid-tier camera phone for amateur Instagrammers, or for young people (like my son) who are just about to get their first smartphone. As it boasts a 6.3" screen with a really sleek look, the aesthetic look itself is really a winner. And at $19 (as at 19 Nov 2018) for the lowest post-paid plan that StarHub is packaging it with, there is really little to complain about this phone.
