Gu Ma Jia Chinese New Year Reunion Set Meals
[Media Invite]
This coming Chinese New Year (CNY) in Jan 2017, if you, your mother, your mother-in-law or your grandmother decided not to cook up a feast, here's a place you could consider for Reunion Dinner.
Two varieties of sumptuous feasts have been prepared for CNY 2017 at Gu Ma Jia. You can look forward to spending quality time with families while enjoying a delectable spread. Famous for their consistent presentation and taste, Gu Ma Jia is also known for their cleanest, freshest ingredients that are handpicked and quality checked by Gu Ma and most importantly – no added MSG. These two CNY sets are aptly named ‘Peace’ and ‘Prosperity’.
We had the chance to sample some of these goodies last month. Here are some of them:
Love this dish a lot. The broccoli were not overcooked, leaving enough crunch to chew. To top it up with macadamia nuts was a toothsome win. I cooked broccoli and other crunch veg with cashew nuts, didn't know macadamia nuts could do so well. I'll definitely try exploring it next time.
We know most restaurants have stopped or reduced the order for sharks' fin. So crab meat and fish maw are getting more popular these days. Gu Ma Jia also adopted the same principle. This dish will be a good appetizer, particularly if you add some vinegar in. The ingredient portions were generous too!
This has to be my favourite dish. I have tasted Ginseng Chicken that was an absolute letdown because the chicken meat was mushy (the chicken was not fresh or frozen chicken was used). Rest assured that Gu Ma Jia's one will not be since she is picky with all the ingredients. I particularly love the roasted pork that has been added in. It is unusual to add roasted pork into Ginseng Chicken but the fragrant and the saltiness of roasted pork just blended in so nicely. This dish is super nutritious and I trust that it will be a love among the elderly too!
It is said, the test of the quality of the food in a restaurant lies in its steam seafood. It is true. Gu Ma Jia won't disappoint you. Gu Ma Jia is known for their cleanest, freshest ingredients that are handpicked and quality checked by Gu Ma. So we had a very fresh and juicy Red Grouper. It was delicious, and a dish absolutely adored by old folks.
The easiest way to test the freshness of prawns is to note how easy/difficult it is to de-shell them. The bonus of having such fresh prawns is also the ease to de-shell with just your chopsticks, without the use of your hands. It's a skill I have acquired over the years :). Happy to announce that I did the same for this dish! I absolutely love the succulent prawn meat here.
Do you know why stable food is always served at the second last in the menu? As far as I know, this has been a practice since the olden days. In case the dishes served prior to the stable were not filling, the loads of carbo served will then help to fill the guests' stomach. Rest assured that Gu Ma Jia's dishes are in generous portion, so this is least likely to happen unless the table consists of all sumo eaters :P.
But this Steam Lotus Leaves Rice is da boom. If you still have the stomach space for it (or do leave some stomach space), don't give this dish a miss. The mixed of fried scallop, chinese sausages, dried shrimps and chicken made this dish very flavourful, very delectable.
The Teochews will love this. I am not a Teochew. But this is not exactly the teochew style as it does not have pork lard. This is a healthier version, some will claim, though I think pork lard is a very healthy oil. It is topped with sweet pumkins and gingko nuts. Yam paste lovers will definitely love the melt-in-your-mouth sensation.
On top of the 2 set meals, you could also order extras from these ala-carte menu to add on:
Gu Ma Jia will be having certain timing for the 2 set menu on the actual day of Reunion Dinner on 27th Jan 2017. For ease of booking and arrangement, this is for your info:
