Reaping The Best Of Ganbanyoku Hot Stone Therapy
[Sponsored Review]
This is part 2 of my Ganbanyoku post. Read part 1 here.
The preparation with our kids on Primary School Leaving Examinations is taking a toll on our bodies. On top of our daily mandatory duties as mommies, we also have to help our kids in this national exams. Digging through past years papers, sieving out hot topics, working on the weaknesses of our children and strategising ways to tackle these weaknesses, our minds are constantly occupied. The mental stress is real for both parents and the children.
Yesterday, while our children were in school mugging on practice papers, my mommy friend and I took a much-needed retreat to Ganbanyoku to heal our body aches (due to lack of sleep).
This mommy friend of mine lived in Japan for 2 years, she even delivered her firstborn there! She has heard about hot stone therapy. Needless to say, she was overjoyed to learn that there is an authentic one in Singapore.
Since I have shared some background of Ganbanyoku Hot Stone therapy in my first post, I shall not repeat. Instead, let me share with you how you may reap the most out of this therapy:
1. Visit the toilet
Ah yes, the session is an hour long, so please pee (or poo, if you need to), before you start your session. You would want an uninterrupted session, wouldn't you? Ganbanyoku has 2 shower facility in their premises but they do not have toilet facility, so do visit the washroom in the mall (just a few units away from Ganbanyoku) before you change into the ganbanyoku outfits.
2. Go braless (for ladies, of course)
When you change to the ganbanyoku outfits, it is advisable not to wear a bra underneath (you may still wear undies) for maximum comfort. That is also because you'll sweat a lot. Ganbanyoku has separate rooms for male patrons, so unless you book an entire room for your family or as a couple, females and males are not allocated to the same room.
3. Hydrate
Bring a cup of water or tea into the therapy room to constantly hydrate yourselves (because you will sweat a lot). Ganbanyoku provides water and tea at the counter, so feel free to help yourselves to those.
4. Keep your mobile phone in the locker
As the room is heated up, it is best to keep your phone, together with your personal belonging, in the locker provided by Ganbanyoku. Also, you want a good rest, a good healing session, let not these electronic gadgets disturb you and others.
5. Bring a face mask
Oh yes, bring along a sheet face mask or if you have forgotten, buy one from the counter at $3-$6. In a heated room, your pores will be opened up, that's the best time to mask! Remember to remove all your make-up before your session!
6. Warming up
Different people have different tolerant for heat. So if you find the hot stone bed too hot for you, lay a towel over the bed. My friend and I are fine with the temperature, so we went without.
When you first lie down, lie on your back with your knees bend so that your spine will be straightened and your feet get to warm up. If you can, tilt your pelvis to further straighten your back for maximum back contact.
To warm your belly, lie on your tummy facing down. Feel the heat warming up your stomach, it is so shiok.
Alternate these 2 positions for best results.
7. Shower if need to, but not necessary
As mentioned in point 1, Ganbanyoku provides shower facility so you may shower if you sweat a lot. But, it may not be necessary because your sweat is not oxidised due to the ionised room so you actually don't stink, unlike an exercise workout session. So I usually just dry myself with the bath towel provided by Ganbanyoku.
8. Have a good rest that night
Lastly, you'll be assured of a good night sleep that day. I always did whenever I went Ganbanyoku.
How did my mommy friend find? Of course, it turned out to be a therapeutic session for both of us. Not only did we feel rejuvenated from the heat therapy, we slept a lot better last night. Still wondering if you should try, well, why not? An a la carte session costs $25, so your trial is as low as that. And if you are still wondering what to get for Teachers' Day, considering a gift voucher from Ganbanyoku for them. The teachers will thank you for that!
