[Review] Human Nature - Only the Good!

I often think: how nice it would be if we were to use preservatives & additives for things like cars, household fixtures & fittings, etc. so that they may last longer.

On the contrary, we use preservatives & additives on food produce, skincare & cosmetics products.  The reverse is true: instead of preserving our lives & enabling us to live well, they make us sick.

We live in a world with a population increasing at a rate faster than agricultural increase can meet.  In order to feed more people, the agricultural sector has to become an industry with large scale players becoming even larger by acquiring smaller ones.  The whole idea is to produce more at a faster speed & to keep the produce as long as possible.  This results in preservatives & additives being added to our food supply.

The same is true for cosmetics & skincare products.  In order for products to last longer, preservatives have to be added.  In order to lure more consumers, additives like synthetic fragrances are added.  In order to keep the cost of production low, alternative non-natural chemicals are used.

1 of the well-known chemicals used in cosmetics & skincare products is parabens.

Extract from Wikipedia:
Parabens are widely used as preservatives by cosmetic & pharmaceutical industries.  Parabens are effective preservatives.  They can be found in shampoos, commercial moisturizers, shaving gels, personal lubricants, topical/parenteral pharmaceuticals, spray tanning solution, makeup & toothpaste. They are also used as food additives.

They are efficacy as preservatives & very low in cost.

They are becoming increasingly controversial, however, because they have been found in breast cancer tumors (an average of 20 nanograms/g of tissue).  Parabens have also displayed the ability to slightly mimic estrogen (a hormone known to play a role in the development of breast cancer).  Another concern is that the estrogen-mimicking aspect of parabens may be a factor in the increasing prevalence of early puberty in girls.

Another one which I avoid using is Sodium laureth sulfate, or sodium lauryl ether sulfate.

Extract from Wikipedia:
Sodium laureth sulfate, or sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), is an anionic detergent & surfactant found in many personal care products (soaps, shampoos, toothpaste etc.). SLES is an inexpensive & very effective foaming agent.  SLES, SLS, ALS and sodium pareth sulfate are surfactants that are used in many cosmetic products for their cleansing & emulsifying properties.

SLES is an irritant like many other detergents, with the irritation increasing with concentration.  It has also been shown that SLES causes eye or skin irritation.

Because of these, I have begun to be more careful with not only food produce, but also with skincare & cosmetics products.

My family is using some of Human Nature's products because they are safe for our bodies & for the environment.  The company is also helping the poor communities in the Philippines.

Human Nature’s range of products do not have harmful chemicals such as SLS/SLES, parabens, pthalates, or mineral oil.   We are currently using these:

From top left clockwise: Insect Repellent; Liquid Detergent for clothes, Dish Detergent & Shampoo/Conditioner

Christine, the founder of Human Nature Singapore, sent me some of her company’s products which I have not used before for review.  I am more than happy to try out more of her company's products!

(1) Kids Natural Shampoo & Body Wash
AJ loves to have his ME time in the bathroom as it means he can play with soap & water.  I feel safe to let him do so because Human Nature's Kids Natural Shampoo & Body Wash does not have harmful chemicals.  He said, "Mummy, I think I smell nicer with this new shampoo".  I think he likes the tangerine scent.  :)

Kids Natural Shampoo & Body Wash 500ml  $16.90

(2) Natural Hand Soap
What so great about this?  You may ask. Soap is soap.  No, not all soaps are made the same.   The hand soap in your bathroom probably has chemical surfactants like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) or sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). They are often added to cleaning products to break down grime and dirt easily − but they're also found to be 1 of most common skin irritants!  Human Nature's Natural Hand Soap uses coco fatty acid sulfates instead.  It is a natural sulfate that cleans just as well as SLS/SLES but is completely biodegradable!  Its natural glycerin is non-drying to your hands. It also contains a naturally derived surfactant that effectively cleans your hands while keeping the environment clean & green.

I like the fact that it rinses off quickly under water.  Another bonus!

Natural Hand Soap 200ml $9.90

(3) Balm for All Seasons
Do you have the V brand or the animal brand balm at home? I bet you have.  They have been in the market since our mothers' time & were deem trustworthy.  Really?  I was shocked to read this piece of news when I googled about V brand one day.  I ditched that brand that day.  You may also checked the ingredients used in the animal brand here.

Human Nature's Balm for All Seasons is infused with peppermint, eucalyptus & bergamot to help relieve stress, mental fatigue, dizziness, body aches & even skin boo-boos.

Balm for All Seasons 10g  $5.90

(4) Kids All Natural Spray Sanitizer - Cosmic Clean
You would have thought that all sanitizers are the same.  They are supposed to kill germs & bacteria.  Little do we know that many sanitizers in the market contains Tricolsan.  Triclosan can penetrate the skin on contact & enter the bloodstream which may affect human health, including allergy, cancer, reproductive, endocrine & neurotoxic effects.

Kids All Natural Spray Sanitizer is a 100% natural sanitizer that has a unique blend of sugarcane-derived ethyl alcohol to disinfect & kill germs without drying the skin, & aloe vera to soothe, cleanse & moisturize the skin.

Kids All Natural Spray Sanitizer - Cosmic Clean 50ml  $4.90

(5) Tough Love Natural Dishwashing Liquid
Usually what goes mean on grease goes mean on your hands too.  I know, because I am the one doing all the washing at home.  My hands tell it all.  Skin at my finger tips will start to peel & sometimes I feel like I am hurting my boy when stroking him instead of showing affection.

Tough Love Natural Dishwashing Liquid is not so.  It is tough on grease, rinse off really fast (save water) & is gentle on my hands.  Tough Love Natural Dishwashing Liquid has no harmful chemicals (100%), no phosphates, no chlorine, no petroleum, no synthetic fragrance, no dyes. Wow! Non−toxic & biodegradable.

Tough Love Natural Dishwashing Liquid 250ml  $5.90
