[Review] Rock Climbing - The Rock School & Onsight

AJ has tried rock climbing in The Rock School for quite a while. The Rock School is located in Bedok Community Club.

It has an indoor wall climb for children to warm up.  The instructors also use this facility to play games to get the children into the climbing mood.

After the warm up, the children will proceed to the outdoor wall climb.  The elementary wall is the yellow wall.  The yellow wall is gradually declined in the beginning to help the children to climb & then vertically straight halfway through. It also has more easy-to-grip holders.

The intermediate wall is the blue one.  It is vertically straight throughout & the holders are less easy to grip.

You may have guessed by now, the advance wall will be the pink one.  Imagine climbing upside down?  AJ tried, he dare not proceed further. :)

I really like rock climbing, because it is a very good exercise as it targets muscles in the arms, chest, back & the legs.  It is a total body exercise in with only one type of workout!  It also helps to improve cardiovascular health, needless to say.

I find that AJ is getting too used to The Rock School, so I decided to try another rock school - Onsight Climbing Gym at Guillemard Road.

Onsight Climbing Gym is Singapore's biggest indoor rock climbing gym (10,000 sqft).  The venue was previously Singapore Badminton Hall, some of the locals may know.

I was impressed with what I saw.  This is indeed a place for serious climbers.  Judging at the different climbing walls, it suits amateur to professional perfectly.

Look at this Spiderman!
Before AJ started climbing, he needed to change to climber shoes that should fit his feet really well.

So what is my verdict?

I feel that The Rock School suits younger children or amateur climbers due to its limited walls.  It's Operation Manager, who is also an instructor, is patient with young children & a great encourager.  The Rock School also has Parent-Child programme called Double Up! which a parent can partner a child to climb.  Such nice bonding to climb together with your child, don't you think so?

The Onsight Climbing Gym suits serious climbers, whether your child has just started climbing or not.  The key is: if he/she is serious in developing this skill, Onsight Climbing Gym will suit him/her well as the facilities will enable the child to progress stage-by-stage.

Of course, there is no harm going for a few trials in each school before you decide which is best for your child.
